Active Voice And Passive Voice

Active voice and passive voice are two different ways of constructing sentences in English, based on the relationship between the subject and the verb.

Active Voice: In active voice, the subject of the sentence performs the action expressed by the verb. It is the most common and direct way of conveying information. The structure of an active voice sentence is usually in the form: subject + verb + object.

Example: Active Voice: The dog chased the ball.

In this example, "the dog" is the subject, "chased" is the verb, and "the ball" is the object. The subject (the dog) is actively performing the action (chasing) on the object (the ball).

Passive Voice: In passive voice, the subject of the sentence receives the action expressed by the verb. The focus is shifted from the subject to the object or the recipient of the action. The structure of a passive voice sentence is usually in the form: object + auxiliary verb (be) + past participle of the main verb + by + subject (optional).

Example: Passive Voice: The ball was chased by the dog.

In this example, "the ball" is the object, "was chased" is the passive verb construction, and "by the dog" indicates the doer of the action. The subject (the ball) is passively receiving the action (being chased) by the agent (the dog).

It's important to note that not all active voice sentences can be converted to passive voice and vice versa. The choice between active and passive voice depends on the emphasis you want to give, the focus of the sentence, or the preferred writing style.
